Goodbye to a Dear Friend

We had to say goodbye to Sydney last night. The seizures she started to have last month led to a rapid decline this past week. She went to the vet on Thursday and then to a vet ER and neurologist on Friday. Her condition did not respond to the drug treatments, and by Friday evening there was little hope for her to recover. All of us got to spend some time saying goodbye to her, which was difficult, but we are thankful to have had the opportunity. She wasn't in pain, but she didn't really know we were there. It will be hard not having her with us, but we cherish the time we had with her the past 18 months.

Goodbye, Sydney. We love you.

More Gatlinburg

We had a lot of fun in Gatlinburg, and the weather was fantastic.

Here's an album of pics from the trip. (We also took some videos, but I'll have to edit those down before I post them for sharing.)

End of Hoops Season

Zach and Cole both finished up their basketball seasons last weekend. Cole's team made it to the league finals, but lost, so they finished as runners up and got trophies for 2nd place. Zach's team lost in the semifinals to the team that won their league. It was a good season for both teams. It was also the first year that they were both of teams with winning records.

Now it's full steam ahead with baseball.

Buzzer Beater

Zach and Cole both had games today, and both came out winners.

Zach's game was the nail-biter of the day. His team was nip and tuck with their opponents the whole game, and Zach was having a hard time getting his shots to go in the basket. His team was up 3 points with about 1 minute left, then the other team started to press and scored 2 quick baskets. So Zach was down by 1 with less than 30 seconds. Zach's team got the ball down the court then lost the ball before they could get a shot off. One of Zach's team mates made a great steal and got the ball to Zach. And with 5 seconds left Zach launched a shot about 3 feet behind the free throw line - nothing but net! The crowd went wild as the other team didn't even get the ball back in before time expired. Zach scored 7 points total, his team won 22-21, and he got a lot of high fives and pats on the back.

Cole's game was a lot less nerve wracking, but just as awesome. Cole played against his buddy down the street Trace Dunning, so he was looking forward to getting a win. Cole's team played great, pressing a lot and getting lots of breakaway buckets. They won going away 33-14. Cole scored 4 points, on 2 for 3 shooting, for his best game of the year.

Due to the recent weather cancellations, we get another basketball doubleheader on Sunday. Hopefully that will go well too, as both our teams are in second place, one game behind the leaders.

Another Snow Day

The boys were off school for the 2nd day in a row. We don't have nearly the snow that our DC family members are getting, but I think we've gotten more than a foot over the last 5 days.
