Vacation Bible School

The kids and Pam spent this week at church for vacation bible school. The VBS theme this year was Avalanche Ranch - cowboy/rodeo theme. I heard them singing the songs at night, so they must have been having fun.

Dad's Day at the Reds

Pam, Cole and Zach took me to GABP for Father's Day. It was a nice (hot) day for a game. Unfortunately, the Rangers gave their dads a better showing than the Reds did. (The Jerry Narron deathwatch continues.)

We had a very good time, at least until I got home. I suspect that some bad jalapenos on my ballpark nachos caused my 1 day of digestive upheaval, which started right after we got home.

But it was still fun, and I want to thank the kids and Pam for a great day. What could be better than a day at the ball game with my two favorite kids and my favorite girl?

Wildcats lose first tournament game

Cole's Wildcats lost a close game tonight to Little Miami 13-14. That was the first game of their year end tournament. They now drop to the losers bracket. They'll play again on Sunday afternoon. Cole made a nice catch of a tough line drive.

Zach found out he's got one more game scheduled for Monday night.

Big win for the Wildcats

Cole's Wildcats won an exciting game on Saturday against the Kings Knights. The game started with Kings out to an 8-0 lead, but the Wildcats stayed close and were able to win in the bottom of the 5th 17-16. The winning play was a 2 out, based loaded steal of home by Andrew Johnson, son of the head coach.

The win locked up a place in the "good" end of year tournament for the Wildcats and ensured that they won't have to drop down to the lower division next season.

(Zach had an off day on Saturday.)

Busy weekend - campout + baseball

This weekend the boys and I went to Northern KY for the annual Spring Guides campout. We went down Friday evening and pitched our tent, then woke up early and drove back up Saturday morning for Zach's 9am baseball game and Cole's at 11:00. It was a lot of driving and unfortunately neither game was a winner, although they both played well. Cole smacked a couple of hits and played some good first base. Zach hit two triples and made two really nice defensive plays.

The campout was fun as always. This was Cole's final Guides campout, as he's hit the graduation point for Guides (they call them broken arrows.) He was sad to be at the end of the road, as he's always had a lot of fun with Guides.

We had minor amounts of rain, but not enough to cause any problems. The kids (and I) were tired when we got back home today.
